Silly question

I was just wondering... why one of the Linux logos is "phear the penguin" instead of "fear the penguin"? Is it all about the "ph" or "phear" has a meaning?

Hi, and welcome to LQ...

My wild guess would be that that's an attempt to be
l337 ... skiddie talk and smsish... could have to do with
the phreakers, though.

Cheers,
Tink

P.S.: Since this is not really a Linux-question I moved it to General.

I believe the ph thing dates back in the good old days when you actually had to connect your telephone receiver to a device called acoustic coupler. The 1980s, that is. The ph is borrowed from "phone", and used to (maybe falsely) indicate the users familiarity with networking technics (kiddy speak, then). Anyone remember this 80s hacker guru, Phiber Optics? Kevin Mitnick IIRC, he broke into lots of computers and went to the clink for years. I believe today he's even allowed again to get in the vicinity of a computer.

http://www.google.de/search?hl=de&ie...+Mitnick&meta=

comes up with

http://www.takedown.com/bio/mitnick.html

and here is his homepage

http://www.freekevin.com/

and there is even a wiki page

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kevin_Mitnick

Ah, the '80s. Now I'm feeling sentimental
