Setting up a shared Whiteboard applet...

Heya.

I have a question, but first let me explain what I'm trying to do. I have an online Role Playing group, and we've been using RPGWorlds IRC server to do our gaming. Recently, a friend discovered OpenRPG. The thing is, it isn't very stable on his Mac, and I haven't even started to try and get it working on Linux, so we're looking for other alternatives that will work with our multi-OS group. Here's what we need: A whiteboard with the option of custom background (for a grid to place minatures on), and a chat client with the ability to add and configure a dice bot. Now, we can easily use RPGWorlds for the chat interface and dice bots, BUT... we would REALLY like the ability to use a shared "Whiteboard" to display a grid scale and minatures (RPGers will know what I'm talking about). Where would I get, and how would I set something like this up where everyone (Mac users, Linux users, and Windows users) can view the Whiteboard correctly? Any help would be VERY appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Inteltrip

ps- I have access to a web host running Apache on Linux with, MySQL, PHP, Perl, and CGI capabilities.

There is a type of software called a wiki which should have most of the features you need. One example is TWiki http://twiki.org/. Unfortunately, you might need to make some modifications to the program to make it do the things you want it to do more easily. Otherwise, I'm guessing you could implement the grid as a table with the miniatures being images.
