Running a Visual Basic Application

Will a Visual Basic 6 Application run on Linux. What might be some problems that will be encountered?

No it won't. a) because it's compiled for Windows, b) it depends on the VB6 runtimes. Might work under Wine if you're lucky. If it's important it run on linux you could take a look at Gambas which is a nice VB replacement and try porting the code over.

Just a note for the future; if you're looking for OS-independant languages try C++ or even better - Java. VB is nice and very easy to program, but even the .NET versions are not as robust as a TRUE language. not to mention they are platform dependant.

As for running it on linux; vmware or wine would be your best bet.

Actually, a .Net assembly - regardless of the language used to create it - will run in a .Net framework on any platform. Including Mono on Linux. Much of my VB.Net code runs at home with little or no modification.

However, the OP's question was specifically about VB6. In which case, you're absolutely right.

Kind of OT but really, Mono is that good? Good to know
