Plan 9 is not Unix. If you think of it as Unix, you may become frustrated when something doesn't exist or when it works differently. If you think of it as Plan 9, however, you'll find that most of it works very smoothly, and that there are some truly neat ideas that make things much cleaner than you have seen before.
If 1000 people come in and say a different OS, I guess OP will be even more clueless. So I suggest OP to just get one OS distro and play with it. Eventually, good or bad, its still up to individual.

You go down to your shoes store and try each one of them out. Some of them will not fit you at all, while some of them will. You have to find out for yourself and find one you like, and run with it.

I saw one friend using Zeta, on contrary, I was too really impressed.
It was faster than regular PC, and I am still wondering how they could with a damn old pc. I'd bet it is faster than linux.
