OSX cleaner app use

Hi,

A relative got a mac, and I'm wondering about the usefulness of various "cleaner" programs that exist. A long time ago, when I was a windows user, I used ccleaner quite regularly, and could sometimes see its use. From what I know, OSX is a bit more self-healing than Windows.
We're talking average joe level user here in the case of this question.

it isn't wrong to post this question here, but you'd definitely get better results posting it on a dedicated Mac forum.

I did that, and wasn't convinced of the usefulness of such apps, which is why I asked this question.
