I may well be over shooting the mark, but I really don't see this idea negatively affecting my chances. If *I* were the employer, I personally, would look favorably on somebody that is prepared to make an extra effort. But that is just me.
This guy has apparently had trouble with university educated people, either having a degree while knowing squat, or having a degree and trying to tell him how he wants something done.. This is apparently the reason he is interested in talking to me, as being self taught, suggests I can continue to teach myself, which (at least to me is more beneficial, than somebody who can remember something from a book, and recite it in an exam).
My home network, for all intents and purposes IS my previous experience, I am a welder by trade, and have been for the past 12 years, the prospective employer is aware of this.
I know a lack of schooling (as opposed to education), and experience will undoubtedly have an effect on my prospects of changing industry, but I should probably have mentioned that at this stage, its not an advertised position, so competition isn't really an issue, its more a matter of making a good enough impression to get a foot in the door. Hence why I am trying to go the extra mile as far as impressing by doing the "boring" documentation type stuff, that I see as being just as important as the nuts and bolts skills..
I don't mean to sound unappreciative of the advice, as I DO appreciate it, but would anybody be able to help with naming this plan, or even a link to an example?
