Microsoft Surface Computing

If you haven't heard already here's the vid clip from PM:

http://www.popularmechanics.com/tech...y/4217348.html

I think it's pretty cool, can't wait till it's out and someone finds a way to load linux on it.

Basically it's a huge and bit more advanced touch screen (like a bigger tablet PC) with the ability to detect what touches it.

Great concept but how does M$ suggest one reboot their coffee table every 30 minutes?

I'm not trying to be zealous here (this is a kind of innovation and deserves respect on that regard) but I can't wait to see the first BSOD photo on this mammoth of a machine here...

The technology wasn't created by Microsoft. It's been around for a while (I saw a video of it early last year). Microsoft are just the first people to work with the creators to sell it.

Actually, I can just imagine that...

"Yeah... Could you come and reboot our coffee table? Yeah, it's crashed again. What about that Linux thing?"

It is cool though.

Well, Microsoft isn't exactly known for it's exellent open-source hardware so I doubt they'll make it easy for Linux. As always though, it will finally happen. Everything works in Linux given enough time and dedication.

From the news clip I saw yesterday, it's meant for commercial rather than home use. It was suggested that one use would be in restaurants where you would place your order from the menu as you walked in. And, even though M$ may not have invented it, Bill was getting and taking the credit!

Well what do you know. At least hope that the original innovators were paid well and are now living it up somewhere in the Caribbean.

And also, it's supposed to allow a restaurant to charge the bill to your credit card by you just putting the credit card on the table.
I'm not sure about you but I don't think I'd quite trust Windows with my credit card details in any form.

Bill Gates and Microsoft taking credit for something someone else invented? I don't believe you.

You can see the person that created the technology in the video (he's the Asian guy).
