hey guys, with the recent release of Zune, alot of people have been waiting and attempting to make Linux for Zune. Now i've talked with www, zuneboards, com which is one of the top Zune Sites out there, and they've recently made a group who are working on this very project. But the group is undermanned and unmotivated. so to help motivate them, i've decided to sponser their project, pay up to $500 for anything they may need to buy, for i'd really like to see this project turn out. I then offered if they'd need help with gettin the man power. They said if i could do some recruiting, then thatd probably really help them. So i'm reaching out as far as i can, to my computer hackers, software crackers, and now to the source Linux users/programmers asking for help. Whether you want to help by giving tips, or maybe even contribute to the project a bit with some of your own work, it'd all be recorded all credit will be given. We're not tryin to steal anyone's work, but trying to help release to the public the product that they've paid for. When they bought their Zune, they didn't pay for a company to hold all these restrictions. Didn't buy a mp3 player so that it can only do so much, when its full potential was a much greater cause. Why dumb down a fine computer device, let it live out greater. I'm asking for help from anyone, to help spand Linux onto the MP3 player of M$ Zune and show why Linux and other open-source OS's are a far better choice then the acclaimed Microsoft.
my email is jarhead4life2008@comcast...contact me there, at Zuneboards under the name Uaktags, or on AIM at jarhead4life2008
Linux on the zune is a nice idea, but if you are that purist then why support proprietary companies and technology by buying one in the first place. There are plenty, too be honest pda/psp style open source/free devices available. Why sponsor the microsoft monopoly, just support open efforts more.

im not supporting microsoft's monopoly...maybe i may have came out misleading in my post. what im supporting is a group thats looking to produce Linux on the Microsoft product, much like the IpodLinux and as you say, the pda/psp verison (though i've never heard of linux on them) But Microsoft seems to be scareing off many people wishing to produce this OS on Microsoft Zune, so what i've decided was help this group, ZuneBoards form a group, and i'd do w/e i can to help them get the team they need, resources they may want, and then help sumbit the new download to the rest of the world. I want this to happen, becuz i feel taht its wrong of Microsoft to have done what they've done to the Zune..too many restrictions, too many preventions, too many things that i dont want to be on MY zune and since its my purchased mp3, i wish to have full control over whats on it and whats not. The Linux will give me that control.
I sure wish I had linux on my PSP. But I'll only run it with Devhook because I need to keep the PSP OS. I don't think Zune has a keyboard, and I know that iPods don't, so typing bash commands will be very painful, even the two-letter ones like "ls" and "cd." I can't imagine Xfree86 ever running on those things but then again, I do not know the technical specs of Zune. I would love to have a portable linux device that has all the linux functionality as my desktop (except for being able to play sauerbraten, the gfx required would be too intense for something portable.)
well the keyboard can be made up utitlizing a onscreen keyboard and the directional pad, kinda like typing your name on a Gaming Consol. The graphics for Zune are pretty cool, it does an amazing job with video if that counts. I've seen PalmPilots with these small, folding keybaords...dont see why we couldn't find a way to buy these keyboards and F with them to work on the Zune's connector.
