I have a SuSE 8.2 Live Evaluation cd (runs entirely from the bootable CD and is not installed on the hard disk). It's a great way to learn Linux and test your hardware. SuSE is great for noobs like us...
Try: www.suse.com/us/private/download/suse_linux/ . You will see the link to their ftp download site. Read carefully.
Good luck.

"is it possible to install windows later on and still be able to choose which one to boot up on?"

When you install Windows it will install a boot loader on the MBR which will only boot into Windows. So before you install Windows make a boot floppy that you can use to boot into SuSE. Then install Windows, use the boot floppy to boot SuSE, and use SuSE to set up a dual boot loader on the MBR.

"does suse come with Wine or sumthing like it?"

Yes. Wine is on the SuSE install CD. Wine does not work very well because of inherent problems in emulating complex software. I think that you will find it easier to convert your applications to the Linux equivalent than to try to get Microsoft applications working on Wine.

while true, MS are not beyond altering their apps to screw any competition from writing to the same file format, also, in our "free" society, it is now illegal for foreign software to publish files in MS format without their say so
