Good luck keeping the polished look. You're far better off going with powder coating.

When I get the LT5 in my ZR-1 punched out to a 368 or 415 (can you say 600hp and 203mph to 227mph depending on gearing? ) I'd like to get the engine polished - having seen polished LT5 engines I love the idea. However the upkeep to maintain the polished look is enormous, even for cars which are kept garaged, because aluminum corrodes far too easily. Given that, and the fact that the OEM paint on the LT5 stains so easily (GM has never been known for high paint quality) I'm going definitely to go for powder coating, and hot-jet coating (it's sort of a higher temperature powder coating) for the headers.

Hey on the Linux/automotive topic, does anyone know of a Linux answer to diacom? I'd love to be able to run a logging utility against my ZR-1 without having to keep my clunky old NEC laptop with DOS around. Even better would be a PocketPC solution.

{oops. didn't RTFA before posting. I thought it was in reference to Linux-based ECMs, not using an engine block as a PC chassis. Interesting project!}

hmmm, they don't work for me... if they are working for you, this possibly is due to my isp (university) blocking every damn port they can think of... I'll try the site again once I change my isp (in a couple of months). thanks for the reply though...
