I woke up this morning and ...........

you could have "knocked me down with a feather".

My partner Clare follows Liverpool FC, she has done since a small child and also has relatives "up that way".

So, dutifully, I sat with her last night for the Champions League final, but at half time, we turned it off, as we didn't want to have to witness some crazy 7 or 8 nil "hammering".

To have put the "telly" on for the news this morning and hear that "the scousers" managed a "moment of madness" and score 3 goals in less than 10 minutes, so the match finished 3 all, and for Liverpool to go on to win after a "penalty shoot out" is nothing more than miraculous.

I commiserate with AC Milan, as in truth, they were the better team during the match (as well as favourites to win anyway).

but at that level of football, you've got to be good or lucky, and on the night, it was better being lucky!

As a side comment, it was also a small "feather in the cap" for Poland, as the Liverpool "goalie", Dudek, also happens to be the Polish National goal keeper.

Amazing.

regards

John.

p.s. Oh and while Liverpool "haven't done much" for nearly 20 years, this win, means that they get to keep the trophy, for winning it 5 times - 'spose they'll have to get another one made

The penalty shootout was great. Dudek is an awesome goalie. If you can you should check it out

I still find it hard to think of "football" as soccer, because in the US, football, well it isn't really football, the players spend too much time carrying the ball. I suppose thats why "rugby" is known as that, rather than the correct title i.e. rugby football.

Perhaps it might be better to just refer to "football" (as in the US sense) as "US rules" (or even maybe yankie rules), in a similar way that they call their own version "Aussie Rules" in Australia (now thats what i call one mega f*****g game - its totally manic!).

It would simplify things considerably.

never mind eh? Well done, the scousers!

regards

John

It was a great game. I was speaking to a friend at half time and he said he was off to bed, didnt want to see Liverpool get murdered anymore.

10 Minutes later i phoned him back ... "sorry for waking you up.....you probably want to watch this"

Absolutely fantastic. Times like that make me remember why i love football so much (same as when Arsenal won the FA cup the other day beating united )
