i have an e-machine that had an electrical surge & is dead,how do i retrieve the data


my pc got an electrical surge & is completely dead & will not power up at all. how do i retrieve the data from the hard drive,& can i get it saved to a disc?,do i need any special "thing" to do this ?

If the drive did not take a big hit then you can either put it in another computer as a slave or put it in a USB enclosure. Staples is going to have them for $4.95 tomorrow friday. Thanksgiving Day special.

The odd are that only your power supply was wiped. The first thing I would do (and I have had this happen to me before) is to change out the power supply and see what happens from there.

PS: If everything is trashed, you can always install the drive in another system and, if the drive survived the hit, you can retrieve your data that way.
