In India just about everyone is using pirated Windoze.
All they could be concerned about is the monetary cost, not the freedom.
Actually the situations where licenced Windoze is used are more dismal.
Many Government services are still using Wincrap 95.
It's better than using XP, for which they would have paid more. My driving license photo and fingerprint scan was taken using an XP machine I'm sure, which is really bad, and even more because this is a communist place (I *don't know* exactly what that is, but I know they should opt for free instead of MS), West Bengal.

I forgot to say that my point was that the software that *does* the fingerprint scan may have been written in India - what kind of person who can write that uses Windows in the first place?
Do you really have to? If he's fine with Windows, let him use Windows. Seriously it's not like Linux is perfect and one day everyone will be using Linux so resistance is futile. No. That's never gonna happen. The beauty of Linux is supposed to be freedom - that also means people are free NOT to use it.

I manage servers with CentOS and Ubuntu Linux and I LOOOOOVE CentOS, but not Ubuntu. But you know what I use at home? Windows Vista and I LOOOOOVE it, too! You could never get me to drop Windows in the workplace because Windows Server Active Directory and Group Policies are awesome
