How many of you play on FICS (Chess) ?

I've played some games on FICS, though without registering. I recently joined chess.com and play games there.

the thing with playing chess on FICS is, you get 1 game in 20 where the other player wants to play an open, elegant game, which is enjoyable.

alot of the time the players are content swapping pieces and it comes down to a pawn end game and its so depressing.

I play elegant games. I particularly like to watch the lectures and try them out.
I am not registered though cuz I only have a free email id and my friends wont let me give their work ids.

I just login as guest for lecturebot.

I played on FICS(non-registered). Don't like it very much, only because I prefer a non-timed game. I feel rushed, and so I always end up making bad decisions when its a timed game, but somehow I think games on FICS are always timed. I would like to play with someone from here, but only if it were a non-timed game because to me thats more relaxing.

You can configure your game so it'll add more time after every move. Just pick comfortable pace.

Timed games are good when you have a hour of spare time and can't play longer than that. But I don't understand how people can play game where time limit for player is below 10 minutes. It's a bit too fast for chess.

Yea but when a game is started up on FICS, you tend to start out with only a min or so, and so you have to make your move within that time, and for the most part it keeps going down, and doesn't add to the seconds, so it just makes the game too fast for my taste.

When you are playing with random players, 15 minutes each is more than enough. Thats what I prefer. I have had players who just run away, without even courtesy to resign or even abort. Timed games are essential for this very reason.

For serious hours long or days long play, you do need a serious opponent who is willing to regularly come back to the game. For such players you do have email chess.

I play for fun only, whenever i get an hour off. And as I said before, one of the main attractions to me is lecturebot.
