How many of you are going to use OSX when it able to run on a Intel platform?

Hey all,

I have never been interested in any Mac since I needed a whole nother computer to run it so I was always a PC man. Ever since they made the annoncement that they are switching to Intel, I have been ever so curious to be using it. I really want to try it bad and I just can't wait.

So I am wondering how many people are gonna switch (either from linux or windows) to OSX

Thanks

I'm not going to pay for an OS when I can get so many better ones for free, but I'll admit that I'm curious. If I can get my hands on a copy for cheap I'll probably tinker with it, but I have no intention of switching away from Linux as my primary OS.

If I can find it also for under $100 canadian. I will buy it and check it out. If not, I hope to find a demo or ttrial somewhere.

I have never used mac (well like 10 years ago I did) and am curious to use it and stuff. I just want to see how it works and if I like it. I am getting older so games are n't so important to me so maybe it would be a good os for me.

Yes i know there are tons of really good linux distro's but OSX seems to be differant to me so I wanna try it out.

I think I would have OSX on my laptop and Slack on my primary machine.

os x is good and all, but using it doesn't make you feel like you accomplished anything, b/c everything just works

too bad OSX is amazing...

and just because it's going to run on intel hardware,it doesn't have to run on PC hardware and probably won't. it's going to run on intel macs.

That's probably true. If Apple doesn't maintain close control over the hardware that OS X runs on, much of the Mac's "Just Works" magic will be lost, which is a huge selling point for them.

Well, if I can get my hands on it for cheap, I'm definitely going to try it out, but I don't think I'm gonna keep using it. It's just too simple, which makes it boring after a while. I prefer to be able to thinker under the hood and have the feeling I accomplished something, instead of that everything works out of the box for an eternity without a single problem.

Is it already clear that Mac will use x86 architecture right now?? I think that maybe Intel is gonna buy IBM's patent on PowerPC and build PPC and not x86 chips.
I think is a BIG mistake to switch from ppc to x86 to Mac, cause it's gonna lose all the benefits that G5 processors have.
But, if this is the case, I'm gonna have a triple boot

Not as such, no.

http://www.linspire.com/lindows_michaelsminutes.php - "Apple agreed to switch . . . to special processors made from Intel"

While they WILL be using x86 chips, they won't be generic x86. Even if they were, Apple have made it very clear that their OS is not for use on standard PCs:

Apple spokesman: "We will not allow running Mac OS X on anything other than an Apple Mac." - thanks to Trusted Computing

Basically, Apple are switching from one "specialty" chip to another. They might be abandoning PPC, but they AREN'T going generic.

Sorry, guys, but you won't be dual-booting Linux and OS X on your PCs any time soon! Altho you can of course buy a Mac and install Linux (and even Windows..?) on it.
