yesterday, while visiting my favorite site, a bunch of popups (about 8) came up, one after the other. (nothing offensive, though) i closed each one, but then, when i went to a different site, the same popups came back up again. is there anything i can do?
i'm throwing out this computer in about two weeks, and getting a new one which i'll probably install linux in, so it just doesn't pay to install linux now, and get rid of it shortly after.

probably because YOU ARE posting window's Q's on a linux forum.
A lot of people don't mind, but it may be considered "Trolling" by some (especially when there are loads of windows places, to ask windows questions) - and the best comment is the one about not throwing the old computer out - network it.
In fact, install linux on it now and start learning, then worry about windows later - you can do VIRTUALLY everything under linux and would "hold you in better stead" when the new computer arrives.
Oh, and apart from mozilla, you could also try Opera as that's got popup stoppers as well.
