Today for the first time in months I havent had a cup of coffee and right now my head hurts. Im trying to cut back on caffeine till I can limit myself to 1 cup of coffee a day. Im so tempted right now to leave work and run to Starbucks but I have to have discipline (as well as more Cowbell!!!)
lol, I've quit caffeine more times than most smokers try and stop smoking.
Hint: Never go from three pots/day to zero. You will be out of commission for nearly a week. That was my worst attempt ever.
Give yourself a day or so... you'll get balanced chemically again. And then you'll feel a lot better. I drink a lot of iced tea now... but not nearly as much caffeine as when I was a coffeeholic.
whats the point?, for me its non addictive, and has 0 side effects if i don't take some (but the tea's that go best with milk and sugar/honey all have caffeine), also caffeine pop tastes good, and caffeine is nice. But, then again, caffeine has strange effects on me, it can either put me to sleep, or wake me up. all in all, i think giving up caffeine is impossible, most every drink has some levels of it, even chocolate has caffeine. You might as well give up carbon dioxide (the bubbles in pop), you can stop drinking, buts its still out there, and your still taking it.
I make one espresso in the morning before work. When I get to work, usually have two more cups or so. Some days I don't have any with no side effects. It's all in your head.
Though I did quit smoking again. Picked it up for a while after quitting for about 9 months cause I chose to do so for some odd reason.. and its been almost 2 weeks currently now. Each time I've quit, done it cold turkey without any problems. Addictions are all in the head and it takes a lot of will power to keep from doing it. But I'm not giving up coffee, don't want to cause it tastes so good and not that expensive..
I dont think its all in your head. You can be caffeine dependent. Just like you can be dependent on cocaine. Okay big difference. LOL
Anyway Im not trying to give it up completely but cut down.
I would say I take in close to 1000mg of caffeine a day. I would like it to be around 300 mb. Coffee I think has around 200mg and soda about 50mg. I bought some chai tea to try and switch so we'll see how that goes.
BTW I just drank a Coke and I swear my headache is gone.
are you insane?
I'd never give up my precious, mostly harmless, stimulant.
I guess you might be able to give it up and switch to crack, but that's the most horrible Idea I've ever had.
it's a good idea.... but I don't see myself doing it.(by this I mean dropping caffiene, not picking up crack.)
however, if you want to quit, I'd definitely switch from coffee to some mildly caffinated soft drink or tea. then work your way down to things less caffinated.
weaning yourself off coffee hasn't worked well on anyone I've seen do it.
A mother of a friend of mine is addicted to coffee, no kidding. She drinks a LOT. I've never seen her without a cup of coffee in one hand. I think it does lead to bad health effects if you drink way too much. That's why I don't want to start. I figure if you get enough sleep you shouldn't need caffeine. Of course... I do sleep about 12 hours a night on the weekends.... that might not be very good either....
But let me tell you. Unlike in the West, we drink coffee with a lot of milk. We add just a few ounces of filtered decoction to the milk and drink it warm/hot with or without sugar.
Drink that way and you might wean away from the coffee habit sooner or later. In fact, I can skip my coffee any number of days I want with no ill effects (since I don't drink strong coffee). The flavour is what counts for most people...

The double shot espresso I drink in the mornings is probably 80% soy milk or rice milk... no real milk here! I also add ice to drink it chilled...
Adding milk (soy, rice, cow, whatever) to coffee!!! You utter blasphemies! Not only does it ruin the drink... it also leaves less room in the cup... for more coffee!!!
Starting at 13 or 14 I was a daily drinker of black coffee for nearly nine years. As I never ate breakfast and started my day with a minimum of a pot... my stomach was torn to hell. I gave it up (not only because of the jitters and heart racing I sometimes got) but because my stomach felt like an animal was eating its way out.
Like I said, the pain of quitting (for me) was intense. But I transistioned to some nice tea (hot, iced, black, green -- still no milk or sugar) and reduced the amount I was drinking as well as the caffeine. I feel so much better now.

That's the joy of freedom.. others like what others might not like, some like mayonaise, others enjoy miracle whip..... so phooey on your no milk adding to your coffee..
