I've gotten mixed up. 192.168.1.17 is my computer's IP address--I can see that from looking at the connection. The printer's IP address is...0.0.0.0. I made the printer print a status page: the IP, subnet mask,and IP gateway all display zeros. I don't know how to give the printer a non-zero IP. But...if I told the system the printer was 192.168.1.17, I guess that would mean the computer's just talking to itself? No wonder it's been slow and won't let me click on the printer icon on the taskbar--I suppose I locked it up.

Do a master reset then hardwire the printer to the routerto setup wireless via its Web page as desired.
Ah. So then I can't do this from my laptop but must take the printer to the router and connect them? The Brother instructions say connect the printer to the router or access point, and I thought the access point was my computer.
