pretty sparse poll, esp as vi is normally vim anyway. where's:

nano
jove
elvis
joe
ed

and a billion others? and surely X based editors technically count aswell?

bah. you'll be screwed if a nasty sysadmin doesnt install anything except for vi/vim. It may not be the easiest editor to learn, but you should at least learn how to do the most basic of things with it.

laf. I'm not quite that nasty. when I'm lazy, I use pico, but there -are- cases when you just can't get around using vi/vim.

Like when you are trying to get away with EXTREMELY minimal install on a mobile linux box, and foget to install pico, or pine (which comes with pico) and then are SO screwed, because you didn't take tricky's advice and learn basic Vi. But then you are lucky and go into your house, print up a sheet on basic Vi commands, and viola! You are saved.

Good call guys/gals. Vi is one that should be learned.

I use mc for all my file browsing, and while you're there it's so simple to hit F4 to edit a file that I never even bothered to learn any other e.g. vi.

I like using notepad.

Just kidding. If I use an editor, I use an X based one, like Advanced Editor or something like it.

I am slowly learning a few console editors just in case.

Too much to type there stephanie:
wine /mnt/winbloze/Program\ Files/microsucks/notepad.exe /home/files/configs/mplayer.conf

OR
vi /home/files/configs/mplayer.conf ?

I don't know the path for notepad, but it's probably something lame like that.

PS, I know you were kidding, I was just adding to your humor

Cool
