Do intel Core i5,i7 have hperthreading?

Hi,

I am planning to buy a new desktop soon and I was looking at some intel Core i5 and i7 desktops. But no where in the ad description mentions anything about hyperthreading. If anyone owns an intel core i5 or i7 let me know if hyperthreading is available out of the box, in the bios or not available at all.

Yes. At least, both my i5 (in my Dell laptop) and i7 (in a custom-built desktop) feature hyperthreading out-of-the-box.

i7 desktop CPUs have hyperthreading, i5 desktop CPUs do not.

i5 laptops CPUs do have hyperthreading, but you cant install a mobile CPU into a desktop motherboard (and it would be pointless anyway, the current mobile i5s are 2 cores only, desktop i5s are 4 cores).

I wouldnt worry about hyperthreading anyway, it doesnt help in most situations.

Just when you think you've understood what is going on, reality (and marketing) comes along... You think that you've worked out that the defining feature of the i5 series is that they have four cores and one thread per core and then you spot the i5-3470T, which doesn't.

Check the data on the processors that you are considering here.

'T' models are low power versions, and are pretty uncommon, to the point where they can be hard to find if you do want one.

i5 3470T is just a rebadged i3 3420T with turbocore (as i3s dont have turbo). They shouldnt have been i5s IMO, but intel is doing it for money from those that dont check specs or want the cachet of having an i5...BTW, there was a previous 'sandy bridge' version (i5 2390T).

Very anoying as there are also 'T' models with 4 cores.
