Desision dilemma....moniter or video card? Help me decide please..

Hi all, I have a decision to make. I want to upgrade the 'ol computer with a moniter or graphics card but cannot decide on the two.
I could use both equally, since i'm a gamer.
I either want to replace a GeForce3Ti500 with a Radeon 9600 pro XT OR
replace a samsung 17" 753DF with a samsung 19" 955DF.
They cost about the same.
Whatever the majority of the responces are is the one I'll go with.
Thanks!!
RANDON

As a gamer (I'm not, but it sounds good), I'd probably go with the better card. For one reason, you'll be able to play newer games. For the second, the last thing you want to do is get eyestrain/neck strain. It might only be a matter of millimeters, but after a while, it can add up.

Now, if you use that for graphics work, or programming, or engineering, I'd get the biggest monitor you can afford. Why? Because you can jam more on the screen. With games, you almost want a smaller monitor, because the games tend to look better when you can't see every border of every thing you're shooting at. In other words, a little "blur" tends to make a better picture. With other things however, blur can give you a headache after a while. Games are in motion, so you're not focused in the same way.

Like I said, I'm not a hardcore gamer. This is my preference, however.

Get the card, 17" should be very large for games.

card itll amke games less choppy, on a side note to that post a bit above about how bigger monitor mean more space on teh desktop, its not the monitor size as mush as teh resoloution it can suport, the bigger resoloution = more space, bigger screen size = well it makes things bigger? (thats all i can come up with)

Go for the card, as it is obviously better to get than the monitor IMO.

Go for the card. 17 inches is quite enough.

go for it, im buying a Radeon 9600 pro XT myself, i had the choice of that or a DVD/ROM Burner as i do not have a DVD ROM, but i got an xbox, so i dont really need a burner... why watch a movie on a 17" screen when i can watch it on a 80cm television?

get the monitor, the graphics card will be obsolete in no time while the monitor will not lose its value/use as fast, and you might even be able to fetch a decent price for your old monitor, if not then your next years investment should be in a dual-head card

I strongly agree with the graphic card. I'm a gamer and I prefer a smaller moniter for gaming. 17" is the perfect size. If you want the value, not the gaming then go for the monitor. True a monitor will have it's value much longer than a graphic card, but who cares about the value of a monitor. If you have a good monitor and a bad graphic card, it doesn't help you with gaming. If you are a gamer you should know this already... If I were you graphic card for shure. Radion 9800 Kick asss....
As soon as Half Life 2 and Unreal Tournament 2004 comes out, a video card upgrade for me for sure...

Well I got the card but the problem is that at 1152x864 it won't go over 60hz refresh rate now. I used to run it @75hz with the nvidia card, but for some reason the ATI wont do it. This is seriously bad news. It even says that im doing 75hz refresh rate in the display settings but I am obviously not with all the eye killing flicker.......a glitchy card? I'll get another one and see what happens.......
Thanks for all the replies...

Does the box say that you can go up to 75Hz. Because it should be much higher than 60Hz oviously... Or do you think it might be a compatability issue?

Well I took it back, got another one and the same bloomin' thing. It's obviously a hardware problem now, but the techs at best buy said thay have had no problems like that on the ones they installed....really strange.....I really wanted that card too since it came with a coupon for half life 2 when it comes out.......what a bummer. Oh well i guess everything cant be perfect all the time.....

Are you trying to configure the card under windows or linux? If you are trying under windows, why not call tech support?
