We are all computer recluses, and as such, compute in the dark.

Computing in the dark?
What "environment" do you all compute in? Assuming you are at home, do you have the lights on or off? Who here has a deep tan from their Monitor? he he he, just kidding.
I was just walking into my computer room, I usually work with the lights off, and happen to notice all the LEDs from the different appliances. The HD light was on, my router was going, the screen was blanked but the light for the power button was on, the removable HD light is on, my speakers have an LED to let me know they are on, it was on, and the new fan I put in sounds like an Airplane. I thought I accidently walked onto a runway.
To my question (man I can ramble lately..):
Do you compute with the lights on or off (more often)?
Cool

lots of lights on when i'm inside. my setup is in the basement, half of which is an unfinished utility area-cinder block walls painted white and only one small window,12" X 12". i am next to the furnace, which is old and rumbles periodically rather than roars continuously like the newer models. i keep a small tv on to the news or startrek next to my monitor and i have the usual assortment of leds and power indicators all about. a kerosene heater is right behind me casting the glow of its flame and its heat onto my back-that's a holdover from my days in the mountains, where i came to crave the presence of a fire(contained and regulated, for sure). oddly, when i am out in the hills at night,i go in the dark through the woods and get a kick out of my city brethren, who are apprehensive over getting too far from the cabin-i guess i like light inside when i am working because i jump around and do several things whereas outside at night i am loathe to compromise the night sky with a light.

Lights on. Not very light, but on. I hate when it's dark. I can't work with my machines when I don't have anythink to drink, so I go to make some tee/coffee every 20 min or something. That would be crazy turning lights on every 20min.... :-)

Lights off in the computer room, but lights on in other parts of the appartment, so there's a gloom, but a well lighted one
My eyes get too tired in complete dark, and there's always soooo much junk around my computer desk and racks that if I can't see, I'll just make a bigger mess.

I second that. It's weird. The monitor hurts my head when the lights are on as it is.

well i have to spend most of my days in the dark. the girl 4 desks down from me continually whinges that she gets headaches from the lights, and is so bloody rude she turns the lights down, leaving me (who doesn't sit next to a window unlike her) in this depressing miserable half light... sucks.

Lights...on! I need them so I don't poke myself with all the wierd things on my desk. I wouldn't be surprised if I contracted some kind of wierd disease from a push-pin.
