.com & .net names

Are the there any advantages associated with having a .com domain name ,I mean is it in any sense better than .net domains ,does this effect in the ranking of search engines ?

it shouldn't ... but most people only assume the only domains are .com .net and .org and maybe .gov (all of which are mostly used for the US sites, even tho the US like every other country has its own domain .us that no one really uses for some reason)

Some browsers will automatically fill in the suffix if you do not provide it in the address field, and I believe .com is tried first. What this means is that if your domain is "somegeek.net" and someone else has an unrelated domain named "somegeek.com", they are likely to get chosen when a user types only "somegeek". I'm not positive about this, but it sounds good, huh?

Wrong. One of the best websites over the internet uses .us. Check it out!
