Hey, I'm trying to do that work around by changing the server to "scs.yahoo.com" instead of scs.msg.yahoo.com and when I do that it always reverts back to the scs.msg.yahoo.com. Anyone have any info why that is?

Gaim has posted new packages out that should fix the problem... fresh as of about 2 hours ago:

http://gaim.sourceforge.net/downloads.php

haven't tested the new version yet, as I am lazy and would rather wait a day to apt-get instead of compiling :P... have fun guys.

Yahoo's Osako said consumers will see "frequent protocol changes" should third parties continue hurdling its blocks. In the meantime, angry Trillian users will keep pointing fingers at the Web giant and claiming foul.

http://news.zdnet.co.uk/software/app...9158638,00.htm

We have to run behind the GAIM updates everytime they change the protocol.

If you ask me , you're better off installing the entire latest version of GAIM.(0.79)
I just did(Compiled from source) : took me some 5 minutes on a 900MHz machine with 382MB RAM.
It's all just a simple ./configure && make && make install.(After unpacking the tarball ofcourse.)

The problem with that is... you lost some of the old options that you had in the old versions. I'm currently working on adding an extended options button because an option that was available in an old version of gaim is no longer available. Newer isn't always better

For patching Kopete (KDE), take a look at the following thread at KDE-Forums.........offers a wrokaround solution for patching the source code for Kopete..........or else, use the latest cvs version.......

[Kopete] Yahoo blocks 3rd-Party-IM like Kopete

I think the CVS version of Kopete is said to fix the problem. However, it says to uninstall your current version of Kopete beforehand. I have no idea how to do that, because Kopete was bundled together with all the KDE apps in my Fedora 2 installation. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know!

Yes, I agree with the sentiments behind "Boycott Yahoo"..... it's a bit disheartening that they do this AND yet don't bother to upgrade their Linux version of YM.... as if we are secod class citizens just because we don't bow to the tyranny of Micro$0ft Winblows!
