I found out that I had to manually set the TV to 1080p.
I would think the TV could determine the resolution from the media.
Blurays through HDMI output automatically to 1080p , however yes if the tv is set to a lower res, it will take that signal and down-rez it. Also older bluray players that have component out, through copy protection the blurays would actually would down-rez the signal to 720p or less, unless HDMI is used, but that point is moot since all players today do not offer an analog (component) connection, just hdmi - at least from what I have seen. My 2 year old Panasonic bluray only has hdmi (2 ports actually).
One other thing, most blurays that I have come across are only MPEG2 still, unless otherwise stated on the back having the format in AVC or MPEG4. Most likely 4K bluray will only be utilizing one or the other most likely, but majority of blurays I have come across that are 1080p are in MPEG2. It also depends on either the title I think.
(2) two-way speakers, one middle speaker, and two speakers for Surround Sound.
Rated for 130 watts.
Neat I hope it works well . I am in the market for speakers since flatscreens are lacking when it comes to sound, but I am considering a soundbar instead since I don't feel like messing with multiple speakers. I am on the fence on getting either a 2.1 or 4.1 , but also my biggest annoyance that any soundbar that I come across the subwoofer is wireless, and that just annoys the hell out of me. I have reasons why I would much rather have a wired connection, but thats just me. Maybe because I have such a bad impression about wifi, I don't really have any faith either in bluetooth connectivity - plus again I do tech support for a living, and all I deal with is wifi - which for me I would never use to save my life. The so-called 'convenience' of wireless does not outweigh the problems down the road. Sure you have a faster setup, but in the long run I won't have to be troubleshooting my 1gbps ethernet (which btw is faster than wifi ). But I digress.
The person I bought the speakers from has more wired speakers.
If you are interested, I know he will give you a great price.
A 3 inch sound bar can never deliver that sound that a speaker with 8 or 10 inch woofers, midrange, and tweeters can.
Perhaps, I am not necessarily looking for anything really powerful. Hell my pc speakers that I am still using (17+ years now), sound excellent and if I can get that kind of performance out of a soundbar, I will be happy. I definitely am not getting or planning on getting a soundbase, which I heard are terrible but soundbars should have improved at least by now. Plus my room is more of a loft, so I am not looking to put speakers on the sides and behind me, it wouldn't be feasible anyways and since it is a loft not very good for surround sound. If it matches and slightly surpasses performance of my PC speakers, I'm happy. Which is not saying much; considering flatscreens as stated earlier are practically crap when it comes to sound, whereas my PC speakers sound amazing.
