Back from Portugal

(This is as relevant as some other stuff posted here.... )

We just got back from 2.5 weeks in Lisbon. Wonderful trip, friendly people. The only real issue is the low value of the dollar against the Euro.

I kept looking for Linux magazines in the bookstores and newstands---almost nothing. I did find one general-interest mag (In Portuguese) with an article about several differnet Linux distros. With my language skills, I should be able to read it in the next month or two.

Brazil is ALWAYS in the Linux news--interesting that Portugal would be different.

BUT--Linux was not the mission!!! We had great food and wine, and I may have a few pictures worth printing.

Portugal is beautiful, specially in the north (though I haven't gone further south of Lisbon nor the Açores/Madeira islands). It's in the north where my grandparents live and there's a river that was considered the most clean of Europe: Rio Vez. It's a region where a lot of people eat their own food and make their own wine. You're remembered of each hour because of the churches' bells and at 9pm you'll hear a (sort of) nostalgic tune. TV is not great and they're very different of Spaniards when it comes to entertainment. The only thing that characterize both is their love for soccer and good food.

And motorcycle roadracing - the Spanish and Portuguese are rabid fans.

Last two races of the MotoGP series are Estoril in Portugal and Valencia in Spain.

GO NICKY!!

Not that surprising, really. It is like traveling to Australia or England and expect it to be similar to the US. Except for the language, they have very little in common.

Glad you had a nice time though. Portugal sure is nice ^_^;;
