i'm just wondering, how many people one here listen to punk rock?
i'm into (mostly political, songs about girls especially annoy me) old and new punk such as:
leftover crack / choking victim
bad religion (the old stuff)
propagandhi
anti-flag
the unseen
circle jerks
minor threat
misfits (the danzig days)
subhumans
youth brigade
good riddance
a global threat
black flag
...
Not really, in the sense that I don't know a lot, but definitely in that I love some bands.
Butthole Surfers
Clash (early)
COC (in both punk and metal phases)
Cramps (probably my favorites on this list)
Misfits (Danzig days? Are there any other? )
Ramones
Sex Pistols
Suicidal Tendencies (hey, that first album was punk - also the metal)
Stooges and Patti Smith if you count stuff like that.
Probably Black Flag, though I never have gotten around to getting any - just like some Rollins and like what Flag I've heard. From the other side of the tracks, though - more into thrash, really. Sacred Reich, Sepultura, Slayer, and other things starting with S.
More into sorta death-/post-/goth-/anarchopunk mishmash, but I guess it counts:
Rudimentary Peni
Misfits (Danzig, of course)
Samhain
Antiworld
T.S.O.L. (Jack Grisham stuff)
The Mob (the early 80s english band)
Christian Death (Rozz Williams era)
Voo-Doo Church
Skeletal Family
obscure finnish gloompunkband whose name roughly translates as "Sunday School"
Killing Joke in general
and last but not least
Kaaos (heh, couldn't help myself)
There just hasn't been anything remotely good released since the (early) 80's
Don't forget great US bands
like
The Cro-mags
Dr Know
Gone (Greg Ginn's band)
DRI
Husker Du
Murphys Law
S.O.D.
Dead Kennedys
SS 20
Anthrax thrash but still great

Yeah, got the new one. It's actually not too bad. What IS too bad is that they're on Nitro :P Well, at least they still got the TSOL sound and style, to a degree. IMHO they're one of the best "80's revival" bands around at the moment.. I just wish they would've made another gloom album (just looking at the cover)
There are just too many of them, but at the moment I'm listening to the Subhumans. Plus, a lot of my good stuff is on tapes, so I can't listen to that while on the computer. Jus thought I had to mention Crass. Yes, it's not exactly you're average punk band, but as they said "well the name is Crass not Clash. They can stuff their punk credentials cause it's them that takes the cash."
I more into early hardcore though- Bad Brains, Black Flag (anything before that Henry Rollins crap), Dead Kennedys, Fugazi, Minor Threat, you get the picture. Was this a listing of punk bands thread, or an "I like punk bands thread"? *scratches head*- I'll come back after some sleep.
"You ain't no punk, you punk
You wanna talk about the real junk?"
I think it was an "I like punk" thread and listing bands was just a "this is what I mean when I say I like punk." But if this is a punk thread, I don't think we should be worrying about whether we're following the rules for what it's supposed to be about or not.
What's wrong with Henry? He falls down - with power. And he gets up. *lol* But seriously - wasn't there like 5 minutes of vinyl before Hank? Or did you follow them at local live shows or something?
Nothing personal *starts screaming "you bet we've got something personal against you" off-key*, it's just, everything after Damaged was cheesy metal. No wonder people threw cups of urine at him !
yeah, Fugazi's also great - they have this instrumental edge to them that many bands lack (but could use). Aren't they still alive and kicking? (as in releasing stuff...)
Yeah - I'm not a fan of "cheesy metal" but am more a "metalhead" than punk, I guess. So when bands like ST or COC go to metal, I'm cool with it - as long as it's good - though punk purists would probably be pretty pissed. Not too familiar with every moment of Black Flag or Rollins though - I thought Black Flag was pretty purely punk and solo Rollins was pretty purely not.
