Amusing computer tip

I found this amusing.

Every morning I listen to the radio while getting ready for work. There is a short 'computer tip of the day' broadcast given by a lady named Kim Komando.

Today's tip discussed whether you should turn off your PC overnight or leave it on all the time. She said that one reason to turn the PC was to clear out the memory, letting the PC run efficiently.

Here's what I thought was funny: The closing comment was something like "... but on today's PC's, Windows XP can run for days without problems..." .

Learn something new every day.

Maybe I shouldn't leave my Slack run for months without rebooting. Apparently triple digit uptime is not a good thing.

Kim Komando is a corporate sellout, just like bob vila.

I use to get her newsletter but not anymore because she has made alot of
negative comments about Linux/ open source.............
I'm sure Bill gates/M$ has brainwashed her........

rip quoted K.K.:
"... but on today's PC's, Windows XP can run for days without problems..."

Incredible stability!

"Maybe I shouldn't leave my Slack run for months without rebooting"

good idea. I use to take a different approach: I glued a GillBates-Logo onto my Suse box. it works! my linux, freightened by the threat of beeing re-replaced by [ummm], runs for years w/o reboot.

If you're going to hijack a thread, at least pick one that is getting a lot of traffic...

"blinker fluid"? Is that anything like "generator grease" or "muffler bearings" ?

That brought back memories from a long time ago. We used to hang around a local gas station when we were teenagers. Back when there were actually service stations, gas stations which did vehicle repair. Well, one day a younger kid wanted to hang out with us older guys. We said he could stay but only if he would go across the street to the other gas station and get us a can of generator grease.

We watched the kid go to the other station while we had a good laugh. But the guy at the other station actually looked for a can of generator grease and apologized when he couldn't find any!

This was a stupid thread anyway. Might as welll mangle it a bit more...

It is. I always wonder how many people catch it.
Just in case any of you are wondering how to change your blinker fluid here's a helpful article:

It's about shutting down linux periodically to...umm...something.

I don't have trouble with this. The power goes out here every few weeks, so sometimes I wake up, see the puter off, and say "OK...breaktime over...get back to work, slacky!"

Meh, I haven't rebooted my computer since the I moved into my university dorm and booted it up the first time. It's sort of like a running clock for how long I've been here, should be interesting come April.

And it should at least be something that is close to the topic at hand.

A friend of mine once told me how his girlfriend had taken her car to the shop and they charged her something like $300+ because they said she needed her "canooter valve" changed. I still laugh when I think about that...

Good thing you said something about it, I was reading away and saw his post. Once I hit it, I had to re-read the thread to try to figure it out. Maybe I missed something throughout the whole thing. Then I noticed it was just some crazy guy trying to take it over. hahahah

good laugh, 8/10!
