How does everyone else feel about this. I admit I am kind of worried SCO will destroy the open-source commmunity. Linux (and FreeBSD) are great OSes, I woule hate to see progress hindered because of some greedy bastrds trying to earn a buck.
The fact they are willing to dish out millions of dollars to lawyers and offer shares within thier company sounds more like bribes to me.
"I don't understand. Why do they think they have a case against the bsd's?"
They do not have any case at all. ATT sued BSD for using ATT's Unix code. By the time the lawsuit was settled in 1994 the ATT Unix code was owned by somebody else, perhaps Novell if I remember correctly. ATT's case was dismissed with extreme prejudice. In American law extreme prejudice means that ATT lost and lost so badly that they are not allowed to ever reopen the case. SCO is the current owner of ATT's Unix and also has inherited ATT's legal obligations that go along with the code. It is a crime under American law for SCO to try to reopen the case against BSD.
