Unable to find boot loader - always boots XP
This problem I have seems to be common. GRUB is not installed correctly and so even though I have 2 Operating Systems XP and Fedora Linux, Windows always boots up. Windows is on an IDE and Fedora Linux is on an external drive.
Also when I log in rescue mode, the first error message I get is that it is not able to find the boot loader and it prepares and installs some packages, but when I re-boot, there is no difference, it goes directly into Windows, even though I choose my default OS to boot up as Fedora
I tried to manuall install grub using the following command by logging in rescue mode
I did chroot /mnt/sysimage
At the command line I typed in the following command
grub-install
error I got "Install device not specified"
Next command
grub install /dev/hda
error I got "/dev/sda1 does not have a corresponding BIOS drive"
I went into rescue mode and found this to be setting on in my grub.conf
grub.conf
#boot=/dev/hda
default=0
timeout=5
splashimage=(hd1,0)/grub/splash.xpm.gz
