Good afternoon,
I just downloaded Fedora FC4 test3
i burned the iso onto a CD
i wiped the hard drive clean on my c600 using a FreeDOS wipe utility
when i put the cd in and restart the laptop it comes to the screen asking me
- to install or upgrade in graphical mode...
- to install or upgrade in text mode...
- use the function keys...
the problem is i don't see a fedora core logo at the top and i am not prompted with a "boot:"
in stead i just see a flashing cursor, if i type anything once i get a period and the cursor still flashes, if I type anything again, the system reboots.
It doesn’t sound like you booted from the CD. The text you described is not familiar to me in the FC context. Maybe it’s a problem with the order of BIOS boot devices.
Do keep in mind that FC4T3 is not classified as a stable distribution, but it should be fairly close to one. If your problem persists, download the FC3 Rescue CD (it’s very small) and see if it will boot.
zahadumy, the cd seems like it burned correctly... it has a directory structure not just an iso file.
whatshisname, after i posted this i tried the cd on two other machines and both of them came up with the same screen except it did have the fedora core logo at the top and a boot: prompt. I am going to get FC3 and try that. If i get the same thing then i think it has something to do with the hard drive. The other two machines i used the cd on were windows xp machines. I'm thinking the wipe disk i used to clear the hard drive may have something to do with the problems i am having.
It sounds like the initial screen resolution is set wrong, such that you are only seeing the “middle” part of the intended display. Or maybe the display driver used by Anaconda is the wrong one for your laptop.
If you were using a CRT, I would tell you to try shrinking the displayed image by using the CRT adjustment controls, but doing that on a laptop is not so easy.
