More lines to add- XF86Config?

The display on my ati radeon 9000 was too bright, and someone gave me the Gamma 0.5 0.5 0.5 line, which helped a lot. My monitor still looks cloudy. I was wondering if anyone knew of any other lines I could add in that same area, such as contrast, brightness, alpha, ect. If you do, I would love the help. Thanks.

Another thought - have you tried simply adjusting the monitor's brightness, contrast, etc settings? Using those buttons on the front of your monitor would be a whole lot easier as well as more effective than messing with the XF86Config file. They won't help with image sharpness but they definitely will fix the brightness. -- J.W.

already tried 3 different monitors

Tried messing with the brightness and contrast for 2 gateway monitiors and a ctx monitor. It's definatly the config. No matter what I set the gamma to, I can never get any black to show up on stuff I know is black. It shows up as a cloudy dark gray. Also I checked up on additional XF86Config settings, and gamma is the only one that changes that type of thing that I found.

I had the same problem with my radeon 9000 pro. I didn't change the settings in XF86Config, I entere "xgamma -gamma .4" in a terminal window. However, it only lasts until you log off. Gamma was a lot better, but not good enough. I downloaded and installed the ATI driver. Had to run rpm -i --force (package name.rpm) in run-level 3 to override a xfree86 package, but it did work. The gamma level is perfect now. It comes w/ a gui via start>> other>> ATI console whereby you can change the gamma settings. My 2D is fine. My 3D is not. Tux Racer is scrambled. I didn't select the proper settings when running fglrxconfig. Got some clues form these forums as to how to correct this. Once I get it, I'll post my corrections.
