Question Same problem

Hi,

I've got the same problem tring to install FC2 booting from a DVD (I have checked it with md5sum and it is ok).
I have Pentiom 4 3 GHz and ASUS P4P800-E Deluxe.

I've also tried to boot Knoppix and it worked fine, so the problem is not on bootable CD in general.

Any idea?

Tnx

confirmation

I subscribe to the same problem.
I downloaded the dvd iso for fedora 2, checked the md5, burned it and booted.
I tried to start the installation, and the computer rebooted immediately after loading the linux kernel.
Here's my configuration:
Asus P4P800 Deluxe (seems that Fedora doesn't like this mobo )
P4 2.8C, 2*512MB PC3200, GeForce FX 5200, etc.
I also confirm that Knoppix 3.4 runs fine; it just doesn't detect the onboard LAN, but that works with a module from the mobo's drivers cd.
I tried to install Suse too and failed, but that's a topic for another forum.

Hm... https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla....cgi?id=121819 might help (especially see comment 122)
I'll read more, then probably try it and report back here.

well, it booted, I started installing, but at some point it hanged, I had to press the reset switch, and then I found that it messed up my partition table (it also gave some warnings during the installation)
the win XP kit wouldn't boot, so I had to put the hdd in another computer and I fixed it there
so far, Knoppix is the only linux that works on my pc (and only if run from cd), there must be something in my hardware that bothers linuxes
I'm gonna try gentoo next

The problem with your installation is becuase of your Asus P4P800 type motherboard. It seems during the installation process that the pc will tend to reboot making it impossible to install. I believe there is a patch for this but what I did was just grabbed a copy of Suse 9.1 Professional which I'm sure I like more than I would've with Fedora. But anyway, check up on that and I'm sure I'm right about the problem.
