Fedora install stops

Hi
Im a complete

to linux and i got the 3 install CDs from one of my professors at school and when it boots off the CD i get the fedora core 1 screen then i hit enter to install, and this is where it gets hung up. Some lines execute but it gets stuck before i reach the GUI install part.
It stops on this line:
apm: BIOS version 1.2 Flags 0x0b (driver version 1.16)

Thank you in advance for any ideas of the problem that might be occurring.

p.s. Im running windows xp pro on a P4 1.3 Mhz with 512 Rambus

The can suggest two things,
1. Run the install in text mode ---- which is a pita

2. The other is trying this
# linux noprobe

and after the install, get to a command line as root and type
# firstboot

to try to detect your hardwards.
