Ok, recently I change my laptop for a ASUS m6n. and I installed Fedora Core 2 test 2 as I normally did it on my old laptop “Toshiba satellite”, I finish to install it, it had its first boot, after the configuration of the first boot…
It reboot again and when it begin the graphical boot were is a “progress bar loading” it loads a bit (like a 1/10 of the hole bar) and there it kind of turn the screen of there is some HDD activity… but nothing else.
I’ve tried boot with a VGA monitor plugged in but I get the same thing… I don’t think that is the screen resolution because it loads a graphical but for a few seconds!!
Laptop Characteristics:
Pentium M 1.7.
ATI Radeon 9600 Mobility.
768Mb or RAM.
Thanks in advance for any help or opinion.
PD:
The laptop works perfect with SuSE 9 and Knoppix 3.3
I have the same problem on my computer (not a lab top) and I dont know what to do?
But I noticed it ws trying to run x configurator as it said that x is not configured.
did you notice this message before the turn off of monitor?
ok, well I have been doing some research and it turns out this is definitely a graphics card problem (I have a radion mobility)
If you boot with rescue disk and edit your /etc/inittab to start into runlevel 3 instead of runlevel 5 the thing will boot just fine. To do this change the line that says :id:5:initdefault: so that there is a 3 instead of a 5.
Unfortunately the system will still lock up if you try to start any Xwindows item. I'm thinking it's a drivers issue and will let you all know if I figure anything out.
edit: spelling

You mean we shall never be able to use fedora?
I have an S3 trident/2x graphic card and it could be detected, so what now?
I shall try what you said and try!
Hi
Hay Madd_hatter I could make it. I edited /ec/inittab and used the run level 3 and it worked fine.
I could login and make whatever I want, but I can't logout!
When I try so, I get the case of monitor turned off again-same as before. Why is that now....
Apart of that....it is OK.
so it turns out it's not a compatibility issue as I've reciently discovered that Radion Mobility is directly supported.
The new thing I've found though is this:
When I couldnt start X by typing "X" in the console logged in as root, if I type "startx" everything works perfectly fine. Now I just need to figure out why it wont just boot straight into X without crashing. Hope this is helping other people too.
OK. problem solved with the Core 2, the only thing is that i get crappy grafics, and i cant find a driver taht says "ATI RADEON Mobylity 9600", y dond hace 3D capabilities with the driver taht is using now, i went to ATI home page loking for it but the have is a vercion of X86Free. i havent try it, have someone done it ???
