F7 Installation Issues (desktop manager, libgnome-desktop-2.so.2)
Greetings
Installing F7 from an image downloaded from fedoraproject.org, verified with sha1 sum as identical to sha1 provided by Fedora
Burned onto DVD media that passed the media check
Issues:
[1] Upong 1st installation rhgb would not run, resolved via xorg-x11-fonts-base rpm installation and copy of xorg.conf to /etc/rhgb
[2] Then gdm wouldn't start a login manager --- this resolved after a few reboots, though I can't figure out why, it works now so I don't really care right now ;-)
[3] I cannot get a desktop manager to start
--> I installed KDE at install time, yet under SESSIONS at login it is not listed, just gnome
--> it appears KDE is installed, however several dependencies are failing, like cups-libs and htdig!!
--> it appears numerous libraries did not install, on boot cupsd, hpiod fail, and on exit fsck.ext3 is shown as not found
--> I am trying now to install libgnome-desktop-2.so.2 and qt kdelibs kdebase via yum
but has anyone had these issues? X is not the problem as xinit works just fine, but startx fails since it trys to launch the default dm or gnome in this case...I get the same errors:
/usr/bin/gnome-session error while loading shared library libgnome-desktop-2.so.2 no such file
the dvd passed the media check, so I sort of strayed from that option, but to me it sounds more and more like a media issue....anyone ;-)
oh other thing is there is no .xessions-error file in any users homedir I try to launch from - the errors are displayed via a GUI box that says the X session has lasted less than 10 seconds...blah blah blah
thanks
