Exclamation Cannot install FC 4 using DVD !

Hi

I tried installing FC4 with the DVD I burnt using a DVD image. It stops at the moment where I was asked to specify 'where (Local CD ROM / Hard disk / HTTP / FTP ) the media is with which I plan to install Linux'. At this moment, when I select Local CD ROM as there was no DVD option, it ejects the DVD and shows a message that media is not found. I inserted back and also restarted the system but the same problem repeats.

This is the same case when I try to do Mediacheck. Seems like someone else also has a similar probem but didnt get a solution.

If anybody is aware of solving this problem, plz let me know. Thanks

Hemanth

Checksum ISO and then Run Media Test

Checksum your ISO image. Then run the media test at the start of your install. These two steps together should eliminate your DVD media as being the cause.

If these two things check out, then it seems to be a problem with your optical drive (I'm assuming it is a DVD drive) not being able to read your disc during the install process. I don't have any ideas on how to address that problem at the moment. Guess we'll tackle that issue if your burned image checks out okay.

Actually I've had the same issues on three different Fedora installations. One from a pressed CD and the others from a home brew isos. Each died at the same point and were all taken off different mirrors and burned on two different computers.

It was a package problem according to the installer.

It seems to me that it may be a hardware problem. I had similar errors when installing Fedora Core 4 on my laptop. On my machine, I would get the error that my packages may be corrupt, which is unlikely since I have tested them multiple times. For me it was actually a problem with my CD drive. I have a removable CD drive and a lot of the time the connection is loose which causes problems. After re-attaching it again, I pressed OK and then resumed the install and everything was fine. Also I found that if your using a DVD-RW installation disc, that many DVD read only drives cannot read it for some reason.
