Yum won't work with Fedora 7
I've just upgraded my system from FC5 to Fedora 7. The upgrade process was a challenge, but with help from here, that was sorted. Unfortunately, the upgrade has killed most of the software I use.
Normally, I would mutter imprecations, and then set out with Google and Yum to sort it. This time, Yum itself (and Yumex) is also dead. This makes it kinda hard to get any further.
Here's what the machine says to pretty much any Yum command:
Quote:
[root@Fedora-Vin keithj]# yum -y update
Loading "installonlyn" plugin
Loading "fedorakmod" plugin
Loading "protectbase" plugin
Loading "kernel-module" plugin
/usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages/yum/plugins.py:390: DeprecationWarning: registerOpt() will go away in a future version of Yum.
Please manipulate config.YumConf and config.RepoConf directly.

I'm sure the fix is very simple, but it's eluded me. Can any kind person tell me what I need to do to get Yum back?
Then I can set off to reinstall QTParted, GParted, Rosegarden, and all the rest of the stuff.
It can't reach the repository for some reason. To get YUM back, you can delete that link in the repository. Go to /etc/yum.repos.d, you'll see a list for "dries". Try moving that to a temp directory and try YUM again.

Thanks! That cleared the blockage.
Yum is now downloading 398MB of updates (205 packages), having upgraded 1035 last night from the Fedora 7 DVD.
I see QRParted among them, so maybe the others are in there, and when it's done I'll get my system back.
There were a lot of messages in the Yum initial output about things being Deprecated. Is there something I should be doing about that, or can I ignore it?
I can't do much else at the moment, as I think this lot of updates is going to take a few hours.

Thank you!
With a couple of minor exceptions, that worked.
Yum and Yumex are back, as is Gparted and the network.
QTParted isn't, but Gparted will do the job fine.
Totem seems not to coexist with Xine any more but Gxine plays videos fine.
The CDRW even wrote a backup CD of recent downloads.
The only bug left is that the Skype icon doesn't appear anywhere - it's running, and calls inwards bring up Skype - so calls can't be made. A minor issue.
