Unhappy Yum very slow on FC3

Yesterday I installed FC3, all went well and it's very nice. I edited yum.conf so it point to my provider's (xs4all in the Netherlands) fedora core mirror. It's retrieving the xml files where yum gets his info. But once it has retrieved a header file, it just sits there for a very long time, before moving on to the next package.

Weird thing is that it has already done it's thing I think, because when I interrupt it by pressing ctrl-c, and start 'yum update' again, it moves on to the next package. Does anyone have any idea what to do or how to debug this behavior ? I already checked with top whether it's hogging the cpu, but it's not and there is also no disk activity !

Very annoying

Thanks for reading .

Yes I tried a few, but the downloading is not a problem, that's very fast, it the process thereafter where the problem is, I think.

I switched to FC3 about two weeks ago and noticed that updating of any kind, whether with yum, apt-get, or with up2date, is very slow. Much slower than Slackware with swaret. Don't know why, though. It seems that the downloading part is ok but the installation slows things down.
