XF86config


Hey i have just done a clean install of FC3 but i cant get into xf86config

i dont know if FC3 installes XF86 or X.org thing

so how do i get into the config and
is the command the same for both XF86 and X.org

fc3 will be xorg. there is no command to get "into" the config, but the config file will be named differently if that's what you mean. /etc/X11/XF86Config vs /etc/X11/xorg.conf

thanks for clarifying the Xorg, but what i mean is in RH9 i can type xf86config in the terminal and it will run the config file allowing me the multiple choice for configuring the comp but it doesnt work in fc3. will i have to edit the config file manually in Xorg

Hi,

I think what you want is system-config-display. It lives in /usr/bin on my FC3 system. (It is the utility used to create the "/etc/X11/xorg.conf" configuration file)

try autoconfiguring it to see if it can work by itself
X -configure

X -xf86config /root/xorg.new;

cp /root/xorg.new /etc/X11/xorg.conf
