Hi everyone

I recently installed Fedora Core 5 which I like quite a lot though I've noticed a funny thing.

Using Fedora seems to produce an internet connection faster then using the Fluxbox window manager on Damn Small Linux which seems strange

On both distros I've been using the same web browser (firefox), though as Damn Small Linux with the Fluxbox window manager was meant to be on of the fastest I thought it was odd that using KDE, with things running such as MySQL that this would happen.

I am beeing serious and I was just wondering if anyone knew a good reason why this would be the case and if anyone else had noticed this.

I assume you're using these on the same machine. Are you running DSL from the LiveCD? In that case, it's possible that the hard drive install of Fedora is faster than unpacking programs from the CD...

Hardware I'm using is the same.

Both the RAM and CPU haven't gone through any changes, my internet connection is the same as it's always been and I've installed Damn Small Linux to hard disk (same disk as my Fedora distro).

I don't think it's just another stupid question of mine becaue I've considered every aspect, both hardware and software, what's going on in the background, how long I use the computer for and what I'm dong with each distro, though neither case can I see any reason for this to occur.

Faster web browsing isn't something I'm complaining about, though it just seems strange.

Somehing I am wondering is if it's just a case of the right distro for the right machine and if that's the answer.

I'm using the Kernal 2.6.15-1.2054_FC5 on an i686 machine... if that helps
