Weather or not to remove gnome and stick with kde.

I just recently received a new computer on which aI immeadately removed fedora which came preloaded and installed Ubuntu Feisty Fawn 64Bit only to be very dissapointed because of lack of a 64bit release of Suns popular Java online applcations frame work,. So I reverted back to Fedora 32bit which came with the Gnome desktop environment which I promptly installed apt utilities and synaptic on after having installed the KDE Desktop Environment.

Muy question is i f I was to remove the Gnome desktop Environment and set my default desktop environment to KDE would I risk rendering my system useless?

I also installed the Seamonkey web suite.

I am wondering if removing Firefox and Evolution would require me to recompile the desktop environment from the command line?

You can remove it w/o any problems. Just go to the add /remove (very bottom of main menu) and under desktop managers uncheck gnome.

This is a wild guess, but removing gnome may have removed some kde dependencies.
If you remove both of them, and then install kde from the command line, you should get all it's dependencies with it.
Not sure about apt, but if you've left yum intact, it should just be > yum install kde <

Ya thats a good point. Isn't there a way he could have ignored the dependencies yet still remove gnome?
