Uninstall kernels

I installed the linux-2.6.15 vanilla kernel following the advices of several members. I got the sources from a linux-2.6.15.tar.bz2 file. Fantastic! All in order.

But the make xconfig was so friendly that I repeated it (with some modifications) and make all, make module_install and make install four times (the last, as I had got a panic kernel during the previus boot up).

Now all is in order again, but I find some files as .tmp_vmlinux1, 2, 3 and ..tmp_vmlinux1.cmd,...etc.

Two questions:
Can I delete without troubles the .tmp and ..tmp files?

How can it be uninstalled a kernel compiled from a tar.bz2 file?

Members that helped me to compile the vanilla kernel, I beg your pardon for my carelessness!

Saludos.

First, this is normal and not really anything to worry about. To clean up the kernel source directory, from the kernel source directory location simply type; make mrproper

But hold off for a minute.....

You should also clean up the little mess you created and left in /boot also, you have to manually delete the un-needed <something>.old files.

If you have a working 2.6.15 kernel before you use 'make mrproper' you might want to save yourself a bit of work for the next kernel build. Make a copy of your current .config file, for example from the kernel source directory location; cp .config /boot/config-2.6.15

You may also want to make both a binary (installable) and source rpm of your custom 2.6.15 kernel, this is done from the kernel source directory and the command is; make rpm

The binary kernel rpm will be found in /usr/src/redhat/RPMS and the source in /usr/src/redhat/SRPMS
