tv-out and init 3

Happy new Year!

General info:

I have configured tv-out on fedora 12 w/ nvidia drivers, and works perfectly.

This computer is generally in init 3 run level.

My question :

Is it possible to disable tv-out for init 3 but enable it in init 5 ?
If I enable both monitors in Nvidia Display Settings, i get cloned output on both displays.

If I disable the tv in Nvidia Display Settings , I only get S-video output.

how could I go about enforcing my CRT monitor as the primary (even though it is) for init 3?

thanks,
All the Best for 2010.

Sorry - I'm confused about what you mean.

I presume if your default runlevel is "init 3", you can boot from your VGA port and see text mode graphics. During and after boot.

Similarly, I presume that if your default runlevel is "init 5", you can still boot from your VGA port, you still see text mode graphics during boot, and you get a bitmapped (X Windows) GUI after boot.

NVidia drivers typically pertain to X windows:

a) if you're running in "text mode", you're using the kernel framebuffer drivers

b) otherwise, if you're running in "graphics" mode, then (and only then) your NVidia-specific drivers get loaded and used

c) In either case (text mode *OR* graphics mode), you should *STILL* be able to use either your VGA port *OR* your S-Video port: whichever one happened to be plugged in when your PC was booted (and your PC's BIOS probed your graphics adapter).

Q: So what exactly are you trying to configure? And how are you doing it? Xorg.conf? Or something else?

As of now if I boot with both inputs plugged in I get output on both, whether I specify monitor0 only or monitor0 and monitor1 as active in nvidia-settings.

A: What I want to do is, leave my s-video and my crt monitor plugged in. When i boot up in runlevel 3 i only want to use my crt screen and to disable tv-out with no out put until I enable it in runlevel 5 .
(i don't know if that clears up anything?)

Basically if I unplug my s-video from my videocard, and then use the pc as I normally would and then plug the tv-out back in, and watch a movie etc.. that would be what i want. However I don't want to keep unplugging it and replugging it all the time. ( call me lazy )

sorry to bump the thread.

I am finding hard time to connect my notebook to TV using s video.

I am using fedora 11 and nVidia Graphics card 6150. Can you point me how to connect.

no problem.

What driver are you using for your nvidia card?

I used the kmod-nvidia drivers.

And then i used the nvidia-settings manager in the panel menu to tweak my settings.
However my tv-out was already receiving output at boot, so it should recognize your s-video connected tv, which leads me to another question.
Have you tried Fn (function) and F8 to enable the dual monitor feature?

I have read that there might be a "function" button on some
laptops which enables tv-out or dual monitor support.

Thanks I will try to update kmod. I tried function keys but some flickering I could see from my tv. So I think once I update kmod it may work.

hi I am in big issue:

I used the following command to install nvidia driver
sh '/home/raja/Download/NVIDIA-Linux-x86-190.53-pkg1.run' --kernel-source-path /usr/src/kernels/2.6.30.10-105.fc11.i586 $(uname -r)

And it installs successfully after the installation it asks do you want to update the xorg config and I choose 'Yes' after the installation screen blinks couple of time then it shows the black screen. I don't have any idea. Please help me.

I could able to move the mouse in the blank dark screen.

rajasundaram,

you are posting your questions and problems in TWO different threads, one of which (this one right here) was not even your own thread to begin with. The other one, over there: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...7/#post3831481 is where you should please continue trying to fix this issue.
The current thread is now rather confusing, as it has two separate discussions in it.

Thank you,

Sasha
