The serious but stupid question of the day.

What is the point of the power management preference menu? It seems to do absolutely nothing. I have it set to never put my computer to sleep and a blank screen when the laptop lid is closed and to put the screen to sleep after 10 minutes and to always display a battery icon. My computer goes to sleep when I close the lid, never turns the screen off if left open and it never displays a battery icon.

Whenever I do an internet search everything is always about modifying some file to change the behavior. Admittedly I haven't tried them but I am comfortable doing that but it seems pointless to have that menu then.

Alternatives can make life easier. That's the reason, I suppose. Some people like to point and click and others don't.
