Sound & Video Problem(s)

I got Fedora up and running on my computer, and even had a friend show me a few things to get me around.

Two things that he could not help me with were:

1.) When I boot into Fedora and log on to GAIM, the first time a person sends me a message it will play the sound, and it will play the sound when I send them a message. After that, no sound whatsoever. I tried something in one of the preferences to detect my soundcard, but it said something along the lines that mine wasn't detected or something, which makes no sense to me since GAIM played sounds.

2.) I have an ATI TV Wonder VE card in my computer. I'm not sure how to configure it in Fedora, if it is even possible. Can anyone help me with that?

All help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
VagabondMuse

I cant remember if Fedora came with ALSA, but if it does not, download the rpms from freshrpms.net , then check out www.alsa-project.org (details under supported cards) to see how to set up the modules.conf file.

FOr the TV card, edit your modules.conf thing first

alias char-major-81 videodev
alias char-major-81-0 bttv
alias char-major-81-1 btaudio
options bttv card=54 radio=0 tuner=2
options tuner=2 debug=1

reboot the sucker and you want to try out the command v4l-conf and v4lctl ( i think)

after you are certain you see the card as /dev/video0 ( or something like that) try it out with xawtv

go to
www.freshrpms.net
There are some ALSA rpms compiled for installing!
Enjoy!
Otherwise you can try OSS,see:
