snort failed on load


when starting fedora5 it shows 'loading snort [failed]'

what is snort?
does it matter if it failed? if so is there a fix?

i am new to linux so please reply in english not linux shorthand

what is snort?
Snort(.org) is an IDS (Intrusion Detection System). It watches your traffic for anomalies and reports them.


does it matter if it failed?
Since you installed it to use it, probably yes.


if so is there a fix?
Look in your syslog (read /etc/syslog.conf: usually defaults to /var/log/messages) for clues why it fails to load.
