shutdown problem. newb alert!

i'm a newb to linux and fedora, so i'm not gonna know where some things are. my problem is this. i have FC6 installed on a computer and when i go to shutdown, it won't do it. the menu bars and apps i have open will go away, but then it's like it freezes. i can reboot just fine. can anyone please tell me what to do? thanks in advance.

I've run into the same problem. Unfortunately I don't have a solution yet. It seems to happen most often after updates have been applied. I'm not certain this is the only time it happens. The work around I've been using is to do a Cntl+Alt+F1, login as root and perform shutdown -h now at the command line.
