problems with mysql


i keep getting this error message everytime i try to start mysql

"Error 2002: can't connect to local Mysql through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock'

Is the mysql server running:
service mysqld status

What are your config options:
cat /etc/my.cnf
