Question Printer Config Hangs

I just upgraded to Fedora Core 1 and my printer stopped working. Let me start by saying that this machine has been upgraded from RH8 to RH9 to FC1 over the course of the past year. The printer has always worked in RH8 and RH9. Anyway, after the FC1 upgrade, printing stopped working. I figured that a config file was replaced during the install so I tried the printer configuration utility in gnome (redhat-config-printer). This hangs and will not work. I tried the cups web admin utility and that was VERY slow and then eventually stops working before completing a printer setup. Something definitely seems wrong with cups. I tried uninstalling all of the cups rpms and then reinstalled. No luck.

I can't find any info on this on the web so I am feeling like I am the only one with this issue and I don't know how to figure out what is going on

Please help!!

PEBKAC

I searched the Internet over and over wondering how it could be possible that I was the only one in the world with this problem. Then it became painfully obvious: it was PEBKAC. Yes, the Problem Exists Between the Keyboard And Chair! Dyslexia! Damn! Two weeks without a printer... all because of two digits!

Ok.. if this happens to anyone else (probably for different reasons though), here is what caused it:

In my /etc/hosts file (which I was editing right before I upgraded to Fedora) had 172.0.0.1 listed as my localhost entry. Well.. my loopback is on, of course, 127.0.0.1. Yep, I had a dyslexic moment and typed 172 instead of 127. This caused the printer configuration tools and printing in general to hang up and do nothing.

So... if you are experiencing this problem, take a look that your loopback is up, correct, not firewalled, etc... because it appears that the printer configuration is very dependent on this for some reason.

Ok.. I am going to go print and entire ream of paper,..... just because I can now...
